World Choir Games Permission Slip
Summit Sounds, and parents,
We have been given an incredible gift. We have been sponsored to participate in the “World Choir Games” this July 5– 7. The “World Choir Games” is the largest music competition in the world, with over 30 countries participating. Choirs participate by invitation only and Kim, the head of the regional office wants us to compete and be in a “Friendship Concert” with choirs from 3 other countries.
This is the first time that the games have been held in the US, (or even North America) so this is History being made. Not only is this a great performing opportunity, but “Summit Sounds” gets a chance to represent the US in a major international venue.
The games are run like the Olympics, with choirs competing for Gold, Silver, and Bronze as well as an Opening, Closing, and Awards ceremony. Our group will be in the first week of the games which will be July 4th – 8th . We have been told that due to the nature of the games, (international relations) and the fact that it is an election year, higher ups are scheduled to be at the games. that’s all I can say.
As participants, we will be participating in the following events:
Friendship Concert: we will sing 20 minutes of music on our own and share the stage with 3 other choirs from around the world. The concert is free for the audience so anyone can attend and support our group.
Access to the choral lounge the day of the concert so that we can meet with other choirs from around the world.
Official registry: we will be listed in the international registry of choirs as members of the games.
Local and international recognition: They will be doing a story on our music program for local news, newspapers, and national news publications.
This participation in the games is expensive. It will cost a total of $2500.00 for us to do this. I had given up on the idea until Ms. Stowers and Mr. Barnett spoke with me about the games and said that they would secure the sponsorship for the entire amount. Mr. Barnett is even funding the purchase of “Performance Outfits” for the group. This means that the only cost for the kids will be 1 lunch. (and any souvenirs that we would buy)
PLEASE, check your calendars and fill out and return the permission slip on the next page so that I know that your child will be there. I know the summer is difficult for scheduling, but we will not get this opportunity again! We need every member of Summit Sounds to make this work.
Just think, 1 day of the summer and our names will be a part of international history!!
We will have 4 practices in June so that we stay fresh for this event. I will get the schedule to you very soon. The students must attend at least 2 of these and MUST attend the July dress rehearsal.
Thank you for your support of the program and I will be in touch with the official schedule and song selections,
Mrs. McCoy

Nov. 17th, 2011 Dear Parents,
We will be holding a special practice for “The 9” on Sat. Dec. 3rd from 9:00 – 11:00 am. This is a crucial rehearsal for the Holiday Concert coming up on the 15th. We will be practicing our entire Acappella songs and will be practicing with our instrumentalists as well. Please call or e-mail me ASAP so that I know who I can expect.
I know that this is a busy time for all of us and I wouldn’t schedule on a Saturday if I didn’t think that it was absolutely necessary.
Thanks again for your support of our music programs.
