Art Class
Hey Parents! Another year has started for us, and were in another NEW room! By now it’s actually starting to look like an Art room too! We have a large mural in the works on one wall, and new student work is going up every day. Both in the room and online!
Our Mixed Media class started the year off with a small collage unit, that included a re-cap in complimentary colors. They moved on to a short Egyptian unit in which they were able to use modeling clay (works are still on display in the classroom!). In the past week we’ve finished up a Gesture Drawing unit (small, quick sketches that focus mainly on the shape and movement of the body with no details) and moved into a Multiples Unit. Students are currently drawing and making collages of images they created. This is much in the style of Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe series.
The Drawing and Painting classes have gone from modern wall painting to ancient wall painting! We’ve completed our Graffiti Unit where students created their own “tag” name and gained an introductory knowledge of street art. D&P has almost completed their our Egyptian Unit as well. D&P students were asked to draw a famous person or character and by only using symbols (hieroglyphics) in the background of the painting, explain who that person or charter is. I’ve uploaded all the work that has been turned in onto artsonia.com. This is a great resource that will keep track of student’s progress and work as well as publish it!
I also have sent out a permission slip to “release” this art work. (None of the work will show up on the website until it’s been OK’d by the parent or guardian.) If the permission slip has been “taken by the monster that lives under the stairs”, verbal permission can be granted on Friday at our Back to School Night (or any other time for that matter). Just know, that neither parents nor the students will be able to view their portfolio until permission has been granted.
As always, thank you for all the donations and support for the Fine Arts so far this year!

Over the past few weeks our art classes have been working on projects that include:

Graphic Design: Has worked on a sport uniform design and the History of Graphic arts, and are currently working on a Bosch inspired “duality of man” collage project.
Design: Sport uniform design and presentation of product. They are currently working on a pop-art 3-D project.
Painting: Has worked on the mixing of paint (colors, shades and tints) in the acrylic medium. They have started an Andy Warhol themed pop-art project.
Picture will be coming shortly! Thank you for your patience.
