Summer Math Camp

We are proud to offer Summer Math Camp for students at our school. Summer Math Camp runs for two weeks, for four days each week (June 11th - 14th and June 18th - 20th). Each day lasts from 8am - 1 pm.

Each day students will rotate through four fun learning sessions. The sessions will be science, crafts, music and movement and games. All of these session will have a focus on math.

Transportation will not be provided for summer camp. Students who attend summer camp are expected to bring a packed lunch each day.

Responses for the Summer Math Camp are due by Friday, May 18th. Notes have previously been sent home. If you are interested please down load the form below and send it back to school with your child.

Netbook Returns

If you have not already done so please return all Netbooks, cases and cords before the end of the school year.

OAA's

Next week, April 23 - 27 is OAA week here at Summit Academy Lorain Elementary. Make sure your child comes to school prepared to work their hardest on a daily basis, including getting plenty of sleep each night and eating a good breakfast .

April 18th

On April 18th there is no school. This is due to President Obamam speaking at Lorain County Community College. Elyria City School will not be providing bussing. We will be open for an Extended Learning Opportunity throuhgout the day for students who would like to come into school for extra OAA prep. Children who do come to school will have to pack their own lunch and snack as we will not be providing food.

OAA Prep

The OAA Test (for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students) may be more than a month away, but that doesn' t mean prep hasn't already started here at school. You can help your children at home by making sure they understand the importance of the OAA. Please read the letter sent home by Miss Wessler on March 8th for more information. March 5thand March 26th are Teacher Days. There is no school for students.

Camp Fitch

Fifth grade students who have signed up will be at Camp Fitch from Monday March 5th until Wednesday March 7th. Please be sure to arrive at school early on March 5th. Students will be returning home on the normal school busses on March 7th.

Confenence Nights

February 15th and 16th are conference nights. If you have not already been offered a conference spot please call your child's teacher to set one up.

There is no school on February 17th.

Mr. Burns

We would like to welcome our new Assistant Director Mr. Burns. He will be working closely with the rest of the Administrative Staff and the Staff at larger herel at Lorain Elementary to continue to ensure we have the best possible positive learning environment for your students.

Mrs. Ballinger

A new person will be helping run the Main Office along with Mrs. DeGraw. Mrs. Ballinger starts January 3rd on our return from Winter Break. She will be helping with all the secretarial duties here Lorain Elementary and is a welcome addition to our front office. Be sure to stop and introduce yourself when picking up or dropping off students in the Main Office.

Summit Academy Lorain Elementary is dedicated to educating all students, however, specializing in the education of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Asperger's Syndrome. We adhere to the philosophy that every student can learn, given the appropriate instruction for that child.

Summit Academy Lorain Elementary serves children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. We have small class sizes with no more than 18 students per classroom. Each classroom is staffed with a Highly Qualified Teacher and Instructional Assistant. In several cases, there are two HQT teachers in the classroom co-teaching. All students receive Art, Music and Martial Arts throughout the school year.

Mission Statement

Summit Academy Community Schools for Alternative Learners will address the academic and social needs of young students with Attention Deficit Disorders/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and other learning difficulties. We are guided by the belif that every child can learn, given the proper instructional environment. We will adeere to the theory of multiple intelligences in concept and in instructional design.

Under the Administration link you can see a monthly note written by our building administrators about our school. You can also download a newsletter about our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) that are used in our building. An updated and current lunch menu is also located there. Check back often to see all the changes and events going on at our school.
