Summit Academy

5/20/2011

Wow, we are eleven school days away from summer vacation, and I am stunned at how quickly this year has gone. We've had a lot of fun, made some friends, shared some memories, worked hard, started an outstanding Steel-Drum Band, and yes, had a little bit of crazy too. :)

I feel very fortunate to work with so many amazing, smart, creative, kind, and determined students. And I hope they had a wonderful year here with us.

Mrs. Lawrie and our students created Summit Academy's very first steel-drum band. If you did not see them at their concert, make sure you join us for a concert next year when they are bound to become even better!

We are still accepting 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students for next year, so please stop by if you think our school might be right for your child.

Have a fantastic couple weeks and an amazing summer!

~Ms. Kinney

Pep Rally Band Basketball Team

This year we had 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade basketball teams. They had a lot of fun this season. Thanks so much to our coaches for all the hard work you put in this year. Gooooooo Mighty Dragons!

Thanks to Ms. Lawrie, our music program can't be beat. Most of our students started out the year with no prior experience playing instruments. Now they work together to create fun and funky music. The performed three concerts this year!

Honor Roll Party

Congratulations to all our fine students who earned all A's and B's for our first quarter! It took a lot of hard work and dedication, but many students rose to the top and earned a party and cake. Good job guys, and keep it up!

Attendance Party

Attendance Party Attendance Party

It is not always easy showing up to school through rain, snow, sniffles, and other life issues, but many students still managed to show up each and every day to show their faces and do their very best. Great job gang!

Positive Behavior Support Party

PBS Party PBS Party

The students who earned the right to come to this party are the ones who demonstrated positive behavior to themselves, their peers, and their fellow students. They were helpful, respectful, honest, dependable, and safe. Through these behaviors, these students earned the most Dragon Bucks of anyone else in the school. They also earned a donut party and the right to wear whatever they wanted for the day instead of their school uniforms.

Spirit Week

'80s day '80s day

It is that time of the year when we show our Summit Academy Dragons pride by... well, dressing silly! We had many themes this week, including Crazy-Hat Day and Mix-Match Day. The fun pictures above were from everybody's favorite, '80s Day. This is one of our more fun ways to unite the school under the common spirit of fun.

10/1/2010

Welcome: We are having a fantastic year in our new building! We are fortunate to have eight classrooms, as well as a cafeteria, Dojo, Library, and Art room for our 90 students. The building also has offices for the Director, Behavior Specialist, Differentiated Specialist, Title 1 Teachers, IEP Coordinator, and Speech Pathologist. The educators at Akron Summit Academy Middle School are pleased to have such an amazing staff working to best meet the needs of each individual student.

We are working hard on Academics while preparing for OAA testing, but we are also proud of our thriving Art, Music, and Martial Arts programs.

One notable change this year is that we implemented a token economy using the Positive Behavior Support system. Through this program, students are praised and rewarded for utilizing helpful and healthy behaviors. They earn our school's currency, the Dragon Buck, which they can spend on rewards in the classroom or at the school's prize store located in Mr. Murray's office.
